The very first South African Grand Prix took place on 29 December 1962 in East London, and the last one was held on 14 March 1993 at Kyalami on the outskirts of Johannesburg.

Altogether the Formula 1 World Championship visited the country on 23 occasions, with some of the greatest names winning there including the likes of Alain Prost, Mario Andretti, Jim Clark, Jackie Sewart,

Graham Hill, Gilles Villeneuve to name some.

Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit - South Africa

The original circuit was built in 1961 and hosted 18 rounds of the F1 World Championship from 1967 until 1985. The circuit layout was changed in 1988 with only half of the original layout retained. This second version was active for a brief period. A new revised layout, which included a new pit building, was constructed in 1991 and again hosted Grand Prix rounds in 1992 and 1993. more info

Prince George Circuit is a race circuit in East London in Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. On this course the South African Grand Prix was hosted in 1934, and 1936 to 1939 when racing was halted due to World War II, and then in 1960–66. more info

Cape Town Possible Street Circuits - South Africa

Cape Town has been suggested as a possible venue should Kyalami owners be unable to host a future South African Grand Prix.
